The days before your surgery

Before you come into hospital, it’s important to remember a couple of things.

If you have been advised to stop any medications (in particular blood thinning medications) you must make sure these instructions have been followed; however, it is usually not necessary to stop taking low dose aspirin (75mg). Some immunosuppressive medications can affect wound healing - these should have been discussed at your clinical appointment and relevant instructions given. If you were started on any new medications (after your consultation) that you think may affect the surgery (or if in doubt), please contact Mary well in advance to clarify things.

You may need to make arrangements for some simple things after your procedure: arranging for a lift home, having someone in your home (if you live alone), a plan for showering with a dressing (a cast protector from your pharmacy) and food preparation can be more challenging!
