Biography
Paul Sullivan graduated his medical degree (MB, BCh, BAO) with honours from UCD in 2002 and completed basic surgical training in Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) 2005 with an MRCSI. He went on to specialise in plastic surgery, completing the Higher Surgical Specialist Training Scheme (CCST) and during which, he obtained a research doctorate (MD) from NUIG for his clinical research thesis performed on ischaemia-reperfusion in surgical patients.
Paul was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, FRCSI(Plast) after completion of his intercollegiate (UK and Ireland) specialist exams but he went on to pursue further sub-specialist post-exam fellowship training.
In 2014, Paul began his fellowship training in Hand Surgery at the world-renowned St Andrews Centre, Chelmsford, UK for a year followed by a second year in Ortho-plastic Hand surgery in Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, NZ. Following this training he successfully completed the European Board of Hand Surgery exam FEB(Hand Surgery) in Santander, Spain and joined the specialist register of the Irish Medical Council as a fully trained Plastic Surgeon.
In 2016, Paul was appointed as a consultant plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Beaumont and Connolly hospitals with a specialist interest in hand and upper limb pathology and trauma as well as complex skin cancer and general reconstruction. Mr Sullivan is a member of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons (IAPS), the Irish Hand Surgery Society (IHSS) and is the RCSI Director of Core Training in Beaumont Hospital. He provides training for medical students, junior trainee surgeons and is highly sought after mentor for aspiring surgeons.
